Austin Events: May 24 – 30

This week finds plenty of interesting shows that diverge from the norm in Austin with the independent metal/punk Chaos in Tejas concert series.  Look for them dispersed throughout my picks for the week, but the shows will be taking place Thursday through Sunday at Beerland, Emo’s, Red7, and Mohawk.

Monday, May 24th

Ximena Sariñara w/ La Royale & Gustavo Gallindo

Young, eclectic Latin singer Ximena Sarinara plays Stubb’s tonight, doors at 9 pm.  Tickets are $17 and you can buy them here.

Black Robot, Hot Crush, Big Shot Bob, Seven Year Existence

Check out this hard rock show at Headhunter’s.  It’s FREE!  Doors at 8 pm.

Tuesday, May 25th

Soundcheck Magazine Presents Family Medicine, Sad Accordions, Dirty White Boys, Black Jesus

Join Soundcheck Magazine as they bring you another $2 show at Emo’s.  Doors at 9 pm.

An Evening with Azul

Check out another night of Latin music sponsored by KUT featuring sets from the following shows: Trio Azul, New World Quintet, Flowers & Thorns, and Rancheras para Reir y Llorar.  Read more about the fascinating sets here.  Doors open at 7:30 pm, entry is $5, $3 with student ID.

Alejandro Escovedo

Alejandro’s regular gig at the Continental Club tomorrow, doors at 10:30 pm.

Wednesday, May 26th

Noble Dog, Erin Ivey, Suzanna Choffel, Jennifer Sullivan, Home by Hovercraft

Check out this regular lineup of talented locals at Momo’s, doors at 7 pm.

From the Mind of Adi Series, #6

The series rolls on at Mohawk, doors at 6 p.m. with food From Woodland and an art show by Deep In The Art Of Texas.  The bands are The Ashes, Beautiful Supermachines, and The Hi-Tones headline.

Pentagram with Black Tusk, Rwake, Mala Suerte, Strider Presented by 101X/No Control Radio

Get your metal fix with legendary metal rockers Pentagram at Emo’s, doors at 9 pm.  Tickets are $15 and you can buy them here.

Thursday, May 27th

Robert Cray with Alan Haynes

Blues guitar legend Robert Cray will play at Antone’s on Thursday.  The doors open at 9 pm, tickets are $25, $60 for VIP.  Pick them up here.

This Will Destroy You, The Life And Times, Low Line Caller

Check out some ambient rock outside at Mohawk.  Doors at 8 pm.  Advance tickets are $10 and you can buy them here.

Lux Divon

Local dub reggae group Lux Divon will headline at Redline Hookah, doors at 8 pm.  It’s FREE!

Chaos In Tejas: X (Australia) + The Spits, Ty Segall, Grass Widow, Wild Thing, Wild America

An evening of psychedelia and folk weirdness happening at Red 7.  Doors at 8 pm.  Tickets are $20.50 and you can buy them here.

Austin360 Concert Series featuring The Coveters, Deadman

Check out this $5 show at Stubb’s on Thursday night.  Doors open at 9 pm and you can buy your tickets here.

Friday, May 28th

Chaos In Tejas: Saviours + Toxic Holocaust, Gehenna, Ashdautas, Acephalix, Iron Age, The Roller

Another metal show taking place at Red 7, doors at 9 pm.

Ume with Cowabunga Babes

Austin indie rock band Ume plays at Mohawk, doors at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are $12 and you can buy them here.

Chaos in Tejas Night Show- Riverboat Gamblers, Bloodbath and Beyond, Airfix Kits, True Widow

A night of punk and rock bands at Beerland on Friday.  Doors at 9 pm and tickets are $10.  You can buy them here.

Chaos in Tejas: The Ponys + A-Frames

Saturday, May 29th

Bassnectar with HAJ & DJ Manny

The experimental, bass-heavy, synth group comes to Stubb’s on Saturday, doors at 7 pm.  Tickets are $22 and you can buy them here.

Charlie Daniels with Harry Bodine

The fiddle playing legend makes his way to the Nutty Brown Cafe, doors at 7 pm.  Buy a table for $40 and up.  Ticket info here.

Indigo Girls w/ Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines

The ladies of folk play La Zona Rosa Saturday, doors at 8 pm.  Tickets are a somewhat steep $25 and you can buy them here.

Red Leaves w/ The Fever Dreams, Lean Hounds, & Obsolete Machines

Check out a worthy local ticket playing at The Parish.  Doors at 10 pm, tickets are $7.53 (or $8 at the door).  Get them here.

Sunday, May 30th

Black, Red & Black with Ephraim Owens, Brannen Temple, & Red Young

There’s no cover for Sunday jazz nights at Lambert’s.  Doors open at 8 pm.

Chaos in Tejas with Rorschach, Bastard Noise (Wood, Connell & Nelson), Morne, Yellow Tears, Mammoth Grinder

Sunday at Beerland at 3 pm.

Chaos in Tejas Night Show- The Marked Men, Toys That Kill, Young Offenders, Brilliant Colors, Hex Dispensers
