My picks: NX35 Saturday and Sunday Schedules

February 26, 2010

Alright everyone, welcome to Part 2 of my NX35 festival picks!  I hope you checked out my picks for NX35’s Thursday and Friday schedules and if you’re interested in attending the fest, word has it that wristbands are in short supply.  You may want to get on that.  If you have the time and the opportunity, don’t miss this mini-conference while it is still on the verge of becoming huge.  For now, here are my Saturday and Sunday picks!

Before I get started listing bands here, I should discuss what everyone wants to know about Saturday night: Per the NX35 blog, they will dedicate a separate post on their site giving details for The Flaming Lips, Midlake, and Stardeath and White Dwarfs shows. I’ll post an update here as well once the full info is available.

What NX35 has available now is that “the big show” will take place at the North Texas Fairgrounds around 6 pm.  These shows are scheduled to end around 9:30 pm, at which point, the evening shows I’m about to post will begin.  So, if you were planning on camping out all night to see just the Lips, the good news is you’ll still be able to enjoy all the other great bands lined up for Saturday night!

Okay, with that out of the way…let it begin again!!  These are two TERRIFIC days of music!  Click the jump to see my picks, get links and see videos of the artists!

NX35: Saturday 3/13 Schedule

Matthew and the Arrogant Sea

This Denton band is on the cusp of making it big in the indie scene.  They’ll be touring with Midlake, and playing during SXSW in Austin.  Catch them at Hailey’s for NX35.

Tre Orsi

Tre Orsi is Denton band about to release their first LP Devices + Emblems.  Catch them playing their bracing indie-rock tunes at Jupiter House Coffee.

Andy’s Bar is going to host an awesome line-up on Saturday night.  Oklahoma noise band Colourmusic, innovative Austin indie band The Laughing, Denton folk/country/experimental band Sarah Reddington, and LA alternative band Bigbang will all be in attendance.

And don’t forget to add to your line-up, as I mentioned earlier, The Flaming Lips, Midlake, and Stardeath and White Dwarfs, who will all play Saturday!

NX35: Sunday 3/14 Schedule

DJ Mom Jeans

Danny Masterson (yes, THAT Danny Masterson) brings his trippy DJ side project to NX35.  He’ll be spinning at Andy’s Bar.

Natalia Mallo

Brazilian pop minimalist Natalia Mallo will please at NX35 with her breezy sounds.  Check out her show at Banter.

The Kissaway Trail

Alternative indie band from Denmark The Kissaway Trail are playing plenty of gigs in the coming months, including several at SXSW.  For NX35, they’ll be at Dan’s Silver Leaf.

The Diamond Center

Highly entertaining psychedelic rock band The Diamond Center will play at Jupiter House Coffee.

Top Place to Stay Put on Sunday:

The Boiler Room, 101 W. Hickory Street

The Boiler Room is going to have quite a fun line-up on Sunday night!  Dallas bands Smile Smile (currently supporting Bob Schneider and due to make some appearances at SXSW) and Giggle Party will be there, as will experimental dance band The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, LA Brit-pop influenced The Shakes, electro/hyper-pop group Math the Band, and quirky Denton indie-folk band Fishboy.  Hang out there to ensure you won’t be bored for a single minute.

Okay, that’s it!  See you all at NX35 in T-minus 2 weeks!
