AGMG/Docubloggers/ME-TV SXSW Announcement!

February 26, 2010

(Hey, since it’s my website, I gave myself top billing.)

YAY!  I’m really happy to finally announce that Austin Girl Music Guide is going to be working with Sean of Docubloggers, sponsored by local cable music channel ME-TV, to provide locally-focused coverage for a SXSW television special!  As Sean explains in the video, we’re going to be interviewing people as part of the coverage – interactive/social media specialists, musicians, filmmakers, actors, and anyone else with something to say, advice to give, and stories to tell.  We’ll also be hitting up all the red carpets and big parties with cameras in hand to capture how Austin does SXSW.

All of our hard work will culminate in a 30-minute special that will air on ME after the fest is over.  No other local outlets are going to be doing coverage quite like this!  Docubloggers is Sean’s groundbreaking, Emmy-winning television/web hybrid series and specializes in unique documentary perspectives, crafty storytelling, and most of all, community input.  He’ll be covering film and interactive.  I’m really looking forward to getting AGMG in on that action, and I’ll be making my on-camera debut covering the music and musicians that bring people to our city in droves.

So, what do you need to know?

First of all, more announcements are coming.

Second, if you are SXSW-affiliated and you want to be interviewed by me or Docubloggers, or have your event covered in our special, look for us on Twitter at @austingirlmg or @docubloggers, become a fan of AGMG, Docubloggers, and ME-TV on Facebook, or contact us via the info on our respective websites.

Third, we’ll be uploading content DAILY to ME’s website, so you can check in on all the action as it happens!

And lastly, stay tuned to this page and Docubloggers for all the exciting updates!

    An invite for you…..

Represent Austin’s Official SXSW Showcase Saturday, March 20th 2010 at Lambert’s Downtown Barbeque located at 401 W. 2nd St. Austin, Texas 78701.

We are excited to be showcasing some of our roster that was selected to part of this year’s music conference, so first, here’s a quick look at our company. Represent Austin is committed to promoting music diversity, and our SXSW 2010 showcase will undoubtedly introduce you to some of Austin’s finest artists. This event will showcase artists from the screams and growls of deep within the Red River District to the Bluegrass/Americana songsters inspired by the westward Hill Country gateway, and back again across the board to the bleeding edge of electronic dance music and DJ culture.

True to our roots, this showcase features six artists/bands from six different genres. Here’s the line-up:
    8pm – Dustin Welch – Roots/Rock

“…he’s assembled a new band that oozes more chemistry than the Periodic Table… It’s Americana with a bruised black eye.” Dante Dominick, Austin Music + Entertainment Magazine issue 11.

    9pm – The Bruce James Soultet – Soul/Funk
“Bruce James has a deeply soulful set of lungs; at times [he] echoes Springsteen, Joe Cocker and Van Morrison while remaining true to himself.” — Relix Magazine

10pm – The Bright Light Social Hour – Indie Rock/Pop
“The Bright Light Social Hour blend glam-dance with a classic-rock, blues vibe. It’s quite an interesting and potent combination.”
    -Michael D. Ayers, SPINNER

    11pm – L.A.X – Dance/Electronic
“Any band with six members tends to get messy and raucous on stage, but L.A.X. works together professionally and beautifully, which each member contributing something worthwhile. For something that started as a electro duo performing at house parties, L.A.X. has come a long way and deserves this current burst of limelight.”-(Candace Birkelbach, The Austinist)

    12am – Eagle Claw – Progressive Rock
“1) Expect driving, heavy grooves; 2) Check out the video projections provided by Recreational Speculum; and 3) Don’t waste your time waiting for a singer to step forward. The band lets the riffs do the talking. Austin’s Eagle Claw is an instrumental power trio with an emphasis on the word power.” – (Richard Guerrero Jr., The Caller)

    1am – Pack of Wolves – Metal
“Drawing on an array of Metal influences, Pack of Wolves creates a uniquely demanding and momentous sound that has been characterized as “Heartwork era Carcass taking an epic journey through the deep south.”” -(Zach Marcotte, Edge Magazine)
